📖 Words explained
long head of biceps femoris
The head of biceps femoris that starts from the sitting bone (ischial tuberosity).
sciatic nerve
The thickest nerve in the body. It comes out deep in the buttock (below piriformis) and runs down the middle of the back of the thigh, splitting above the knee into the tibial and common fibular nerves.
semitendinosus
A muscle on the inner back of the thigh. Its lower half is a long tendon, hence its name; bend the knee and the thin tendon stands out like a cord on the inner side of the back of the knee.
gluteal fold
The horizontal crease where the buttock meets the back of the thigh.
gluteus maximus
The large, thick muscle that forms the buttock. It swings the leg back and gives power for climbing stairs and standing up.
