1Where is Qingling?
Inner upper arm, 3 cun above the elbow crease.
It lies just inside (medial to) the biceps brachii.
Biceps brachii · Humerus · Brachial artery
2How do I find it on my body?
- Bend the elbow and move the arm away from the body.
- Picture a line from HT1 (Jiquan) to HT3 (Shaohai).
- Take the mark one third of the way up from the elbow: 3 cun above the crease (one third of the 9-cun upper-arm span).
A cun is a body-scaled unit of length. The precise way is to divide a bone length into equal parts (proportional bone cun); finger widths are a quick estimate.
- biceps brachii
- The 'biceps' at the front of the upper arm; its two heads join on the radius to bend the elbow and turn the palm up. Bend the arm and you feel its thick tendon in the crook of the elbow.
- brachial artery
- The artery running down the inner upper arm. Its pulse is felt in the crook of the elbow just inside the biceps tendon, and it is where a stethoscope goes when blood pressure is measured.
- median nerve
- The nerve running down the middle of the arm, through the center of the palm side of the wrist into the palm. It handles feeling on the thumb-side palm and movement of the thumb muscles.
3Before you press
- The brachial artery and median nerve run in the groove of the inner upper arm.
- Do not press hard.
- Avoid broken or swollen skin and press only to a comfortable level.
- Acupressure is not a substitute for medical care.
- Crushing chest pain, breathlessness or a cold sweat can signal a heart emergency — call emergency services at once; do not try acupressure.
4How has it been used traditionally?
- A point of the Heart meridian on the inner upper arm. Its name joins qing (blue-green) and ling (spirit).
From traditional texts — not a claim of effect.
