1Where is Jingqu?

Front-outer forearm, 1 cun above the palmar wrist crease, in the groove between the radial artery and the radial styloid process.

It is 1 cun above Taiyuan (LU9).

Beneath the point

Radius · Radial artery

Our 3D measurement · In our 3D model: 1.07 cun above the wrist crease, between the radial artery and the edge of the radius — about 4–5 mm to the thumb side of the artery.

2How do I find it on my body?

  1. Palm up, find Taiyuan first (thumb end of the wrist crease, where the pulse beats).
  2. Move toward the elbow by one twelfth of the wrist-to-elbow-crease distance.
  3. At that height, feel the pulsing artery and rest your fingertip in the groove between it and the bony ridge on the thumb side (radial styloid process). Stay beside the artery, not on it.
Check · if you have two creases on the palm side of the wrist, it lies roughly at the upper one.
📖 Words explained
radial styloid process
The bony tip sticking out on the thumb side of the wrist, the lower end of the radius, right beside the pulse spot on the thumb side.
Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing
An acupuncture and moxibustion book compiled by Huangfu Mi in 3rd-century China, regarded as the first classic to organize point names, locations and classifications systematically.
wrist crease
The horizontal crease that forms at the wrist when it is slightly bent. There is one on the palm side and one on the back, and they are starting lines for measuring arm points.
radial artery
The artery running down the thumb side of the forearm to the wrist. It is the pulse you feel when you place fingers on the thumb side of the wrist crease.

3Before you press

⚠ Do not press when
  • The radial artery runs right next to this point.
  • Do not press hard or for long on the pulsing line.
  • Classical texts (the Donguibogam and Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing) say moxibustion should not be used here.
  • Avoid broken or swollen skin and press only to a comfortable level.
  • Acupressure is not a substitute for medical care.

4How has it been used traditionally?

From traditional texts — not a claim of effect.

5Classical text

Donguibogam (Heo Jun, 1613), Acupuncture and Moxibustion, "Jingqu"

在寸口脈中手太陰脈之所行爲經 … 禁不可灸灸之則傷人神《銅人》

① In the middle of the pulse at cunkou, the wrist pulse site. Where the Hand Taiyin channel passes, which makes it the Jing-river point. … Moxibustion is forbidden here; the text warns that it harms the person's spirit (Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing).
