It is on the front-inner thigh.
Vastus medialis muscle
2How do I find it on my body?
- Straighten the knee and find the inner end of the kneecap's upper edge (patellar base).
- Taking the pubic symphysis to the patellar base as 18 B-cun, go up 2 B-cun, about two thumb-widths.
- Tighten the thigh so the vastus medialis bulges.
A cun is a body-scaled unit of length. The precise way is to divide a bone length into equal parts (proportional bone cun); finger widths are a quick estimate.
- vastus medialis
- The teardrop-shaped bulge on the lower inner front of the thigh, above the inner side of the kneecap. It straightens the knee.
- pubic symphysis
- Where the two pubic bones join with cartilage at the bottom middle of the belly; going straight down from the navel you meet it as a hard bony edge. The center of the navel to its upper edge is taken as 5 cun.
3Before you press
- Avoid broken or swollen skin and press only to a comfortable level.
- Acupressure is not a substitute for medical care.
4How has it been used traditionally?
- The name joins xue (blood) and hai (sea). Found by touch where the vastus medialis swells above the inner knee.
From traditional texts — not a claim of effect.
